October 25: Despite playing their hearts out, Royal Wahingdoh were made to suffer a narrow 1-0 loss against MLP after a penalty was awarded in the 63rd minute. The Royals dominated most part of the last twenty five minutes of the match as they followed an aggressive approach, forcing MLP to follow a defensive mode. But luck was not on their side as a number of questionable off-side calls by the linesman and several close misses denied them any chance of staging a comeback.
With the first half wrapping without any changes to the score sheet, Royal Wahingdoh showed signs of promise in the early part of the second half. However, a 63rd minute handball by Royal defender Algan Sun in the box saw MLP earn a penalty. Striker Niwan-o-Gatphoh took the shot and was able to place the ball past keeper Karma for what turned out to be a decisive lead. The Shillong Premier League champs then went on the offensive and continued playing the ball on MLP’s half.
The Royals nearly levelled in the 74th minute when defender Lalchhawnkima headed a beautiful cross right at the crossbar. Scrambles in the dying minutes also nearly gave Wahingdoh an equaliser, but they were somehow denied any goals by MLP’s defence. A few off-side calls by the linesman also appeared highly questionable and that also added to Wahingdoh’s string of misfortune in the game.
