Royals display class to notch up 1-0 win in Independence Day exhibition match

August 15: Royal Wahingdoh displayed a classy performance against I-League promoted side Rangdajied United on Thursday as part of the Independence Day Celebrations at Polo Grounds. Contradicting reports of Rangdajied’s coach Santosh Kashyap’s comments that his side would “outplay their competitors”, Wahingdoh proved their dominance as they cruised home to a 1-0 win.

Maintaining a higher percentage of ball possession, the Royals left Kashyap and his men stunned with their sneaky passes and combination play. The winner came in the 57th minute after midfielder Laldinmawia sent in a timely pass to Sena who was making his run down the left flank. Sena collected the pass and found his way into the box, before deftly placing the ball past the keeper into the net.

The one-goal lead was enough to ensure a win for Royal Wahingdoh as they created several near scoring chances throughout. The exhibition match comes at a time when both teams are gearing up for their respective outings in the two divisions of the I-League. Royal Wahingdoh will make another appearance in the I-League 2nd Division while Rangdajied United have earned a promotion to the top tier of Indian football, the I-League.
