March 15: Yet another inspiring performance by the likes of Ennio, Atsushi and Jacki led Royal Wahingdoh to a third straight win on Friday at the Emerald Heights Ground, Indore. Playing Green Valley from Assam, the Royals got off to a brisk start with Jacki sending a right-footer past the keeper sixteen minutes into play following a cross by Atsushi from the right flank. Green Valley looked a helpless lot with near-scoring opportunities being created early on and the rising pressure.
One of Royal Wahingdoh’s most recent signings, Atsushi Yonezawa then received the favour from team mate Jacki seven minutes later after the latter made a cross that allowed the Japanese striker to produce a neat left-footed shot into the net.
Then in the 27th minute, Ennio made it three for the Royals while also scoring his fifth goal of the tournament. With Green Valley’s defence placed under pressure, it was only a matter of time before they succumbed. Jacki missed out on two near-chances in the first half which might have possibly given him a hat trick. However, that did not seem to worry the only Shillong-based side in the group as Atsushi went on to score his second of the game in the last minute of the first session. Assisted by Ennio inside the box, Atsushi left Green Valley’s goalkeeper stranded after he successfully lobbed the ball into the net.
Substitutions were made in the second half with Puia coming in for Atsushi, Loken for Ennio and Tenzing for Zosangkima. Following a tactical approach, Royal Wahingdoh held on to the four-goal lead until the end to claim three more important points.
The win now leaves Royal Wahingdoh FC at second spot in Group B with nine points in four matches, just behind Kolkata-based side Bhawanipore, who are leading the table with 12 points from four games.
Royal Wahingdoh will play North Eastern neighbours Aizawl FC, who are currently fifth-placed in their next match on March 17.
