September 10: An 81st minute goal by Loken helped Royal Wahingdoh draw their first Shillong Premiere League match on Tuesday at the JN Sports Complex after trailing early in the second half. After a considerably slow start, the Royals picked up pace especially after conceding a 55th minute lead.
Malki’s Fullmoon Mukhim produced a 55th minute header following a cross, that left keeper Bishorjit helpless. But constant pressure by Wahingdoh had the opposition falling on the back foot and it wasn’t going to be long before Malki gave in. After several attempts on goal, the Royals were finally successful in the 81st minute when a clean through ball pierced the Malki defence, making way for Loken Meitei to tap the ball past Larry for the equaliser. Minutes later, Loken came close to producing a stunner but was unlucky by inches. The winger beat the Malki defence, before firing a right footer that ricocheted off the cross bar to leave the final score at 1-1.
Wahingdoh’s next match is on Saturday against last year’s finalists Rangdajied United at 3pm at the JN Stadium.
