September 26: Royal Wahingdoh cruised to a comprehensive 6-0 victory over bottom-placed Mawlai in their Imperial Blue Shillong Premiere League match at Polo Grounds on Thursday for their second successive win. Mawlai struggled to cope with the Royals’ attack as they conceded four goals after the restart.
Atsushi Yonezawa scored the opening goal following a mix-up in the box that saw Mawlai’s keeper fail to hold on to an easy ball. Man of the match Lalchhawnkima then produced a beautiful 36th minute header into goal following a cross to make it 2-0 for Wahingdoh at half time. Wahingdoh dominated possession from the start of play, allowing Mawlai not more than three shots at goal throughout the match. The assault began after the commencement of the second half with Jacki converting a 59th minute shot. Two minutes later, Zosangkima joined the bandwagon as he pierced the defence, making the scores 4-0.
Finally, substitute Bickyson Kharkongor added two more goals in the 77th and 84th minutes, with the first shot taken from a wide angle into the far corner. Royal Wahingdoh now have seven points from four matches while Mawlai are yet to earn a point from their four.
On Friday, Rangdajied United play Nangkiew Irat at 3:15 pm at the JN Sports Complex.
