Royal Wahingdoh U-19 off to a solid start in junior I-League

February 12: A strong team effort saw Royal Wahingdoh’s junior side command a 2-0 win against Green Valley SC from Assam in their first U-19 I-League match at the JN Sports Complex on Wednesday. Rohlupuia provided the early breakthrough with a 9th minute conversion before Pema Wongyal Bhutia added another in the 28th minute. Royal Wahingdoh’s U-19 boys held on to a major share of possession as they created numerous scoring opportunities that could have produced a different score line altogether.

Green Valley’s goalkeeper Mulya Rabha was kept busy throughout as the Wahingdoh attack comprising of skipper Eijingmut Lyngdoh, Maitshaphrang Nengnong, Sushil Meitei, and Naoba Meitei plundered their way past the visiting side’s defence, sending several shots at goal. Royal Wahingdoh got off to a good start with Rohlupuia placing a shot into the nets in the 9th minute. In the 28th minute, a passage of combination play led to a goal by defender Pema Bhutia who simply had to guide the ball past Mulya Rabha.

Green Valley nearly earned a goal in the 51st minute after Jagadish Boro made an attempt on goal, only for his shot to go wide of the post. Meanwhile, Bibek Bhutia failed to convert a 58th minute chance that could have given Wahingdoh their third goal.

Royal Wahingdoh U-19 will play their next home game against ShillongLajong FC on February 18th at 1pm at the JN Complex.
