September 19: Royal Wahingdoh came down hard on MLP to register their first win in three matches in their Imperial Blue Shillong Premiere League match at JN Sports Complex on Thursday. The Royals, aided by man of the match Atsushi Yonezawa’s double strike, handed the police team a 5-0 thrashing after MLP’s Marshall Kurkalang was sent off in the 26th minute by referee O. Dohling for intentionally bringing down Seityasen Singh.
Wahingdoh displayed an improved performance as they played in sets and broke past the MLP defence on numerous occasions. Atsushi Yonezawa was instrumental in his side’s victory as he scored goals in the 51st and 61st minutes. Both times, the left-winger showed great control, as he deftly placed the ball past keeper Alwyn Patwet after making his way past the defenders. The first shot was a left-foot cracker that saw the ball make its way past a narrow path. Earlier, the Royals opened their account in the 20th minute when Jacki sent a low left footed shot into the near post that saw the defending champions take a 1-0 lead at half time.
Wahingdoh’s fourth goal came 74 minutes into play after Seityasen produced a gentle touch into the nets that left Alwyn helpless. Bickyson Kharkongor delivered the final blow in the 79th minute following a scramble inside the box. With this win, Royal Wahingdoh are at joint third place with Malki, earning four points from three matches, while MLP are yet to win a match.
On Saturday, Mawlai will play Pohkseh at 3:15 pm at the JN Sports Complex.
