March 23: A decisive 28th minute strike by forward Babatunde saw Royal Wahingdoh snatch a narrow yet comprehensive 1-0 away win against United Sikkim FC in their I-League 2 final phase opener at Silchar on Sunday. Beating the I-League relegated side was not a simple task though, as Sikkim were not easily subdued. Wahingdoh attacked early which saw them put pressure on the opposition before a goal was conceded midway through the first half.
Nabachandra played a key role in Wahingdoh’s goal, sending a through ball for Babatunde to lob the ball over the keeper in the 28th minute. Early on, both sides appeared wary of the conditions before settling down at least 20 minutes into the game. The Royals held a lion’s share of the possession and created a number of chances but were however, unlucky to convert them.
Royal Wahingdoh play their next away game against Bhawanipore FC, who also won their first match against Kalighat 2-1, on March 25 at 5:30pm at the same venue.
