June 8: Four brilliant goals by Maitshaphrang Nengnong saw Royal Wahingdoh ease past Langsning in the opening match of the 2013 U-19 Shillong Premiere League on Saturday at the JN Stadium. Wasting no time, the junior Royals side attacked from the very start before finding a 6th minute goal through Maitshaphrang. Six minutes later, the forward collected a rebound of Langsning’s keeper inside the box before firing one into the net.
However, Langsning’s Lenningstar narrowed the lead for his side in the 25th minute after earning a penalty. Royal Wahingdoh goalkeeper Kenio got a hand to Lenningstar’s right footed shot, but was unable to make a save. Six minutes later, Langsning’s Damehun Syih missed an open goal scoring opportunity but redeemed his pride a minute later with an equaliser following a corner.
But Khangmiki helped Wahingdoh earn yet another lead after sending in a scorcher in the 34th minute. A minute after halftime, Maitshaphrang scored his hat trick, paving the way for what looked to be a near certain victory. Maitshaphrang got into action once again in the 88th minute, earning possession and neatly placing the ball past the goalkeeper to seal the fate of the match.
Lenningstar was close to achieving a personal milestone with a near hat trick a minute later when he made a wonderful left-footed attempt at goal. However, the ball sailed inches above the crossbar. Langsning’s Geoffrey Massar and Juniorstar Nongbri were booked while Wahingsoh’s Marford was also shown a yellow.
