October 30: Royal Wahingdoh faced defeat for the second time in a row but not without putting up a resilient performance, before losing out 2-1 to Malki on Wednesday’s Imperial Blue Shillong Premier League match. Seityasen Singh’s 79th minute penalty was just not enough to pull the defending champions through as Malki’s pair of Samson Nongrum and Devinroy Nongspung scored a goal apiece to earn a close victory.
An early 5th minute strike by Samson placed Malki in front to keep the scores 1-0 at halftime. The striker sent a long range volley over keeper Karma into the nets.
The Royals’ attempted to create space in the latter half of play, but Malki’s tight defence denied them any open opportunities. Devinroy Nongspung then produced Malki’s second goal after placing a shot from inside the box. A 79th minute penalty by Seityasen Singh gave the Royals some hope, but they were unable to capitalise on any further chances that came their way.
